Z Trip ended his set and walked off the stage at Fun Fun Fun with Ray Charles' version of Deep In The Heart Of Texas. It was good walking away music on the way to Black Lips.
The last day at ACL I got really drunk and started yelling that at people. I almost forget that Texans have so much pride. But thats because we're the greatest, so it all makes sense.
The responses you were getting were almost too enthusiastic too. How could you forget about this Texas pride thing? It was like the second thing I picked up on. After you guys having a severe lack of posted speed limit signs.
That's pretty much exactly what it was like the last day of ACL. People were stopping and doing the claps and everything. Fucking Texas.
Sad to say, but it's pretty engrained in all Texans, even me. I have to admit that I'd probably clap (nearly) involuntarily if I heard someone sing, "The stars at night, are big and bright..."

You can't grow up in Texas and not do it.
I can't believe this shit is real. I always thought it was a joke. Man, I thought Tennessee was weird.

No joke, very real
If you EVER went camping, to summer camp, Boy/Girl Scout event, fuck, just about anything outside at night...you WILL hear that song. And who doesn't like to clap?
You think Texas can let little ole Tennessee out weird us? Get on Texas' level.

You have no idea until you witness it in person. Outkast yelled it during their set and I felt like the only person (no exaggeration) in a crowd of thousands that didn't know what the hell was going on, let alone not respond. When I asked Jordan afterwards wtf happened he seemed almost confused as to what I was asking. He was like, "it's our state song! Duh. Don't you guys have something like that?" He was surprised that I found it weird at all.

That's so fucking awesome, I can just imagine the look on your face as tens of thousands of people clap in unison while you sit there completely befuddled.
Don't you have a call/response thing like O-H.....I-O!!!
And you have to remember, Texans will buy/like/promote ANYTHING (literally anything) that has Texas in the name/title.
Don't believe me? I present:
You don't want to shoot someone with an Oklahoma gun!

Dude, sooooo much confusion. And yes, we have "O-H...I-O" and it's done at all times. JT did that during his show and it always gets a response, complete with hand motions. But it is kind of exclusive to people who like OSU. People who don't like OSU (me) generally don't response. Unless I'm drunk. Then I love it.
And the amount of things with "Texas" in the name was another thing I noticed pretty quickly. Y'all put "Texas" in everythinggggggg.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.

I've never been to a Texas Rangers game, but at every Astros game during the 7th inning stretch they always do the song. Its great having 40k people clapping at the same time.

I've not witnessed a group clapping break out for or even heard Deep In The Heart Of Texas (other than at that Z Trip set) in what seems like 20+ years. Anyhow, I prefer this song to it...

We also say the Texas state pledge every day at school. When I've asked people from other states if they do that, they usually laugh and then say "I don't even know what my state's pledge is".

Oh Texas. You're so silly.
I didn't even know states had pledges.
And FuzzyWarbles. I got otaku distracted and forgot to listen. Now I'm not nearly as excited. You shouldn't have said anything.
edit: Oh many Fuzzy, that is NOT what I was expecting. It was super, super Texas though. AND the fact that it even exists goes on to show how fucking much Texans love Texas. There is no song like that for Ohio.

There's a word I haven't seen/used in forever: "otaku."
My laptop is temporarily out of service, my toilet won't flush, I'm not getting any sleep this week, my college graduation will be determined by Thursday (and it's looking very 'Ds get degrees' at the moment).......
But my friend came through for me and gave me some adderall for FREE! So as soon as I power nap the next 4 hours away I'm gonna wake up, pop one of those babies and have at it.

Do I want to see an Alabama Shakes / Charles Bradley double-header at one of my favourite venues, as a belated birthday concert? Umm, that would be a resounding quack yeah!
Do I have the money to spare in December, one of the spendier months? Not really, but I'm gonna do it anyway. The date of the show (April 2nd) has held excellent concert juju for me the past two years... third time's a charm?
