METH
I have a friend who has a problem. 3 years ago she pretty much disappeared except for the occasional cryptic texts & we saw her maybe twice, thrice during that time. Always weird but not in a good way. She had a network of friends who are friends of mine and she told us we left her and changed, but none of us have gone anywhere and we're all still the same. We all pretty much knew what was going on and we'd invite her to come hang with us, but there was always an excuse why that couldn't happen. She was hiding from us but she would say we just never included her, despite the numerous invitations we offered.
Five days ago she admitted that what we all thought, what we all KNEW, was true. It was obvious to us, that she's acknowledging it is huge. There is no power going to her home because she hasn't paid an electric bill in over a year. Same goes for gas or water. The only reason why the bank hasn't foreclosed on her property is because her mother co-signed on the mortgage and her father has been paying it in order to keep her mom's credit from being destroyed.
Five days ago she acknowledged that she has a serious problem. Today she texted me that she's on her way to a rehabilitation facility in a remote part of GA. She'll be there for 6 months. She'll have no communications with us and we cant communicate with her for the first 90 days. After that we can begin seeing her on Sundays.
Karolyn is someone I really truly love with all my heart. I can't express how happy I am that she found herself and willingly made this change. She made this decision. Herself.
I know this is kind of a bummer post for the YAY! thread, but it's really not. If anyone who reads this post could send just a little bit of good vibes out for her you'll have a place in my heart.

I have first hand experience with this drug and what it can do, and I just wanted to say I can totally understand that this is totally a YAY! Its a long arduous road to recovery and your friend just took the first, hardest step. Good thoughts to both of you. Hang in there.

all over good vibes. Logan and I have been touched by this drugs horrible web. So I get it. The needle and the damage done. Hugs to you, and to Karolyn
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

After this afternoon I needed a YAY. So, for those of you that photograph shows and those that have not.....it is pretty tedious to get a photo pass sometimes. Sometimes you need to email the management sometimes their press person. Sometime they do not respond until last minute....if at all. I sat down this morning to look at upcoming shows in the area and sent out a few emails.
Got photo passes for FOUR shows in a matter of hours....that never happens!
Emancipator tomorrow night, Conspirator on the 29th, Phosphorescent the 30th, and Umphrey's McGee on the 31st.

Nice! Teach me your trick. Other than McDowell I haven't gotten a single response for 8 requests.

bacon, for the most part it is really hit or miss. I devote time at least every other day looking for local shows or festivals within my scope. Most bands have a "contact" link on their website. Some will list management emails and/or press email addresses. It varies on who handles requests for photo passes. (I have found that going the band route is a lot better than the venue/promoter route. In order of success it would go Band/promoter/venue) I usually go with the management if it is an option.
I have also found a definite uptick in positive responses since I got my website up and running. I think it is the difference between giving a free ticket and photo pass to some guy that may or may not put the photos on Facebook from Well, he has a good looking website where I can see his/her previous work, they must have some clue at what they are doing and these photos may see a wider audience.
For now, as I am focusing on exposure, I usually include in my email these things:
1. Ask for a photo pass for the show Venue/City/Date 2. A personal reference to the artist, for example "I saw the band last year at Bonnaroo it was a great set, looking forward to shooting them in Columbus" 3. Any photos I take are available for you to use for social media, website, or any other purposes as long as proper crediting is cited
