"If you haven't seen a band perform live, then you aren't very well acquainted with that band."
This is a pretty ridiculous statement. I never saw Elvis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, Hendrix, and on and on and on. And yet I feel pretty acquainted with these groups.
"I, once, was a hater." This is really all anyone needs to see of this post to tune out. Now that you've seen the light, you can go around telling everybody that they 'just don't get it? Your post is filled with a whole lot of holier-than-thou.
Also, you should not be be surprised at the response to this thread. This board is filled to the brim with people who care very deeply for their music, and by coming in with this attitude of showing us all the light you were asking for the response. How bout next time you're offended by someone's opinion, you tell it TO THAT PERSON. You know, in "real life." That is, as opposed to waiting to anonymously berate them on a forum on the interwebz that they will probably never see.
I agree with you 100%. I thought it through over and over Sunday night and wished I had said something. I was struggling with the question of "is it worth it?" I wasn't coming into these boards preaching, I was more or less writing a blog about one of my experiences at Bonnaroo that was on my mind and I came off the wrong way. This post was directed at the people constantly yelling obscenities about certain bands at Bonnaroo...if you didn't hear them, then you can't really relate to my experience. I am, however, saying that there are a lot of bands out there that you "don't get" that are amazing artists. Same for me!!!
